Year 10

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 all pupils follow courses in Welsh (Language and Literature); English (Language and Literature); Mathematics and Mathematics – Numeracy; Science and the Challenge Certificate (which is part of the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification). They will also receive PE lessons on a weekly basis.

Each pupil will select 3 subjects from the optional columns at the end of Year 9 in order to study them to GCSE/BTEC standard. In addition, KS4 pupils will have experiences of Personal and Social Education, Careers Advice, Study skills, Health and Sex Education in special planned periods.

In Years 10 and 11 there will be three learning groups in the core subjects, and these will be set according to ability.  There is usually one learning group for the chosen subjects but if high numbers choose a particular subject every effort will be made to secure an additional group where a qualified teacher is available.

Pupils receive 4 lessons a week in English, Welsh and Mathematics, 6 Science lessons, 2 Challenge Certificate lessons, 1 PE lesson and then 3 lessons in each of the 3 optional subjects they have chosen.
